Title Anthony F. C. Wallace's model of revitalization movements and the nation of Islam in the United States
Date 1996-06
Year graduated 1996
Description Since Anthony F. C. Wallace formulated his model of revitalization movements nearly forty years ago, it has been applied successfully to a wide range of religious and political phenomena. This thesis outlines Wallace's model, then applies it to the history of the Nation of Islam in the United States. Elements of this history that diverge from the model are discussed and analyzed. Despite the fact that the model cannot account for all aspects of this case, it remains a valuable tool for the description and analysis of revitalization movements across cultures.
