Title Scientific Aspects of Efferent Visual Dysfunction in Neuro-degenerative Diseases: Recent Advances
Creator Heather Moss, MD, PhD
Subject Efferent Visual Dysfunction, Neuro-Degenerative Diseases
Description Visual dysfunction is an under-recognized and important cause of overall disability and reduced quality of life in neurodegenerative diseases and neuro-ophthalmologists are frequently involved in the diagnosis and management of these patients. This program will review visual dysfunction (including the afferent and efferent systems as well as the cognitive visual manifestations of disease) in; several neurodegenerative disorders, with special focus on clinical neuro-ophthalmic testing and vision disability in AD, Posterior Cortical Atrophy, PD and other neurodegenerative conditions. Our goal is to provide NANOS members with an update on the visual; manifestations of these disorders, from both a clinical and research standpoint, and discuss diagnostic and management tools to use in their practices. At the conclusion of this course, the attendees should be able to: 1) identify patterns of afferent and efferent visual dysfunction in; patients with neuro-degenerative disease; 2) identify diagnoses and treatments of visual dysfunction in neurodegenerative disorders; and; 3) define new advances and breakthroughs in the field.
