Description San Francisco Phosphate Company began opporation in December 1960 following completion of the concentrator, ore storage bing and crushing plant. Ore from the 600,000-ton-a-year facility was shipped to Western Phosphated in Garfied to manufacture into fertilizer. Duncan King, president and general manager, reported that the phosphate deposit could be strip-mined for 100 years without resort to underground methods. The facility is located twelve miles north of Vernal off the Manila Highway.
