Show This is a studio portrait of Fanny Bulkley in her nurse uniform. She wears the traditional nurses' hat and a high collar blouse with buttons down the front and puffy sleeves. To the right of the buttons, she has a V-shape pocket resembling that of a small envelope. She wears wire frame glasses and has her hair parted and tucked under her hat. Most of the focus is on Fanny's face, making the rest of the image appear slightly hazy. This approach is enforced by the brownish backdrop lacking in detail and the way everything fades into shadow at the bottom. <br><br> |
| Further Information |
A tall, rectangular wood-grain frame holds this picture and has a wire tied across the back for hanging. The photograph is in good condition and the frame has minimal, light scratches, however the paper layer over the cardboard backing is peeling apart and has three stains from a liquid, the largest being near the center. What remain on this backing are a few pencil scrawlings and a black stamp, being shaped as a painter's pallet and having the logo for the C. R. Savage Company on it. The font on the stamp is a slightly lighter brown than that of the paper backing, everything is in caps and only the title is in bold. The logo's words are curved within the pallet. The phrase on the stamp states, with the semicolons representing a new line: "C. R. Savage Co.[;] Picture Framing[;] Photographic Goods[;] Kodak[;] Supplies[;] Salt Lake, Utah." Handwritten near the top of the backing are the numbers "48680." Between the stamp and the numbers is written in cursive, "Fanny [D.] Lees Burkley." Near the bottom left, just above a tear in the paper, is also written in cursive and in a slightly different handwriting, "Fanny Lees[;] 1907-1913." |
