Show A modestly-sized church with bumped-out bell tower at the side. The lower part of the bell tower is made out of bricks, the upper part out of white painted wood. On top of the bell tower is a cross. The entrance to the church is through a white double door in the bell tower. The part of the church that is facing the street displays a narrow, tall, arched window. |

"I question the identity of this photograph. The Payson church, still in existence, was dedicated in 1882. It is a rectangular building with a belfry on the roof and an entry door on the front of the building as compared to this building with a tower on the side and window in front." Dr. Fred Burton, Aug. 8, 2007; "This slide is misidentified-it is a photograph of the American Fork church. The church, dedicated in 1884, is the oldest continually used Presbyterian church building in Utah." Dr. Fred Burton, Aug. 29, 2007. Sepia. Numbers and titles for the Russell H. Goodman slide collection were taken from an accompanying list. This photograph is listed as number 53. The list also includes the following paragraph: HISTORIC PROTESTANT CHURCHES OF THE WEST Photographs taken by Mr. and Mrs. Russell H. Goodman, in whose [names] these duplicate slides are presented to the Archives of Westminster College by Willard R. Harwood and Emil Nyman. |
