Description Image of Irish Chain quilt created in 1774 by Margaret Davis Haensaler . Also includes questionnaires describing the quilt completed by Jean C. Christensen as part of the Utah Quilt Guild's documentation days held from 1988-1994. The following was written by Margaret Davis Hasensaler and dated March 22, 1974... Of all the fasciating old quilts in my mother's linen closet this Triple Irish Chain aroused my curiosity more than any others. It was partly because of its tiny blocks, and partly becuase it was so old. My father's mother lived with us the last years of her life, and she was the oldest person I knew, but it was my father's grandmother that made the quilt on her death bed out of the tiny scraps left after the other quilts she had made. (continued) Now my father was born in 1861, so he would be 113 years old if he was living today. Certainly the quilt made by his grandmother must be over 200 years old. Although we carefully kept it, I never saw any of my family use it. It appears to be in about the same condition as when I was a little girl.
