Description Dr Matsen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1933. Dr Matsen received his B.S. from Brigham Young University in 1958 and his M.D from University of California, Los Angeles in 1963. Dr Matsen completed both his internship and residency at UCLA (1963-1966). Dr Matsen was an Assistant Professor, Professor of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology, Pediatrics and Microbiology at the University of Minnesota from 1968-1974. Dr Matsen was Director of the Clinical Microbiology Lab and Professor of Pathology and Pediatrics from 1974-1990. Dr Matsen was named Associate Dean 1979-1981. Dr Matsen was Chair of the Department of Pathology from 1981-1993. Dr Matsen was Vice President for Health Sciences from 1993-1998. Dr Matsen is Emeritus Professor of Pathology and Pediatrics. Dr Matsen died in 2019. The portrait of Dr Matsen was painted by Galina Perova in 1998, and is located in the Betz Boardroom.
