Description Dr Compton received his B.S. from California State University, Chico in 1963. Dr Compton received his M.S. from Indiana University in 1964. Dr Compton earned his Ed.D. from the University of Utah in 1973 and his M.P.H. from the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Utah in 2001. Dr Compton served as Manager of Research for the National Recreation and Park Association from 1975-1979. Dr Compton was Chair of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at the University of North Texas from 1977-1981. Dr Compton was Chair of the Department of Recreation and Park Administration at the University of Missouri from 1981-1984. Dr Compton returned to the University in 1984 where he served as Dean of the College of Health until 1995. Dr Compton's career achievements include: Election to the Academy of Leisure Sciences (1988), selection as the Outstanding Member, Society of Park and Recreation Educators (1999), recipient of the G. Lawrence Rarick Research Award of the NCPERH (1990), election as a research Fellow, the National Center on Accessibility (1994). Dr Compton was honored as an outstanding alumnus of both respective academic departments of Indiana University and the University of Utah. Dr Compton Emeritus Professor of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.
