Description 1. Letter dated 14 January 1934 from Emma Tucker at Wutingfu Christian Hospital, in Huimin, Shantung, to her children, reporting recent medical cases there; Alan T. Dale (author of "In this light") to marry; upcoming mission synod at Tientsin; 2. Letter date 23 January 1934 from Alice E. Murphy at Lintsing to friends, describing a long oxcart ride following a trip to villages where the missionaries provided training and religious education; village of Fu Jen Chai has a strong Christian community; the church they built; Christmas activities; news of other missionaries; included a photo of Chinese children; 3. Letter dated 11 February 1934 from Emma Boose Tucker to her children, noting death of husband's sister; trip to Tsinan and Tientsin for synod/retreat; news of other missionary families, including health problems, departures, schooling of their children; detailed account of the 11 days at Tientsin; trip home included running out of gas; news of other family friends; Ellises in Farmdale, Ohio; 4. Letter dated 25 February 1934 from Hugh Hubbard at Paotingfu to "home folks," mentioning duck hunting with a Chinese friend; work teaching Chinese women, may lead to a permanent school; further bad financial news from the American Board, may require dismissing several missionaries; 5. Letter dated 4 March 1934 from Altie C. (Mrs. Elmer W.) Galt at Fenchow to Susan Sargent, thanking the "lady doctor" for letter and donation; reference to the Wilburs; financial difficulties of the American Board includes dismissing Chinese workers; Galts will go on furlough, traveling via Kobe, Seattle, San Francisco, and Grinnell; children finishing school in China; Letter dated 18 March 1934 from Mabel Ellis Hubbard at Paotingfu to her mother, written on back of husband Hugh Hubbard's typed family letter, noting that Emery and Minnie Ellis will be at Oberlin, and Hubbards are debating where to send son Wells for college
