Show T_JE was old feeble and even the support of his two sons and the encouragement of his wife did not make walking an easy matter. Beneath the red scarf, tied around his neck to ward off disease, was a grimy towel and beneath that on the back of his neck was pus-soaked cotton and layers of paper pasted over a large carbuncle. They gravely explained their fear that the carbuncle would open into his larynx with fatal results and asked for treatment. The paper wa$ painstakingly removed, the suppurating surface cleansed, several deep pockets of pus opened, hot dressings applied and the grateful patient started on the road to recovery. Dear old body-her arm had been out of joint for months and no one could set it foT her until she came to the hospital. ^Tj CTATTSTICS. Prom the time she came as a daughter-in- law into one of our neighbour's homes, we urged her to let the Doctor operate on her hare-lip. It took two years of effort to overcome her fear and then she was pale as death the morning of the operation. It was soon over of course, and in a few days she was well-and, O the joy! To her mind she expressed it all when she said, "Now, I'll not be ashamed to go to wedding and funeral feasts with the rest of you" ! A |
