Sildenafil (Viagra), designed as a selective phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE-5) inhibitor, is approximately 10% as effective in inhibiting PDE-6, which is a key enzyme in transduction in photoreceptor outer segments. This could be why certain patients report a bluish haze to their vision after taking sildenafil, and others have mild transient color perception abnormalities. |
