Description Vibrio cholerae is a short, curved, gram-negative bacillus with a single polar flagellum that is responsible for its rapid motility. This organism is found in surface waters around the world. The primary disease that it causes, cholera, is mediated by an enterotoxin that has been completely characterized with respect to its chemical composition, amino acid sequence, and molecular configuration.
