Hanniball RECIPROCAL BORROWING PRIVILEGES INITIATED October 1, 1972, is a date that will be remembered by Utah higher-education institution librarians. On that day, through agreements made in the "University and College Library Council of Utah" (UCLC), those persons holding faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate borrower's cards at the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, Utah State University, Weber State College, Southern Utah State College, and Dixie College may borrow from any member library simply by presenting their card at another library's Circulation Desk. Materials may be returned at the owning library's Circulation Desk or at the Interlibrary Loans Office of the borrower's library. In the latter case, materials will be forwarded to the owning library by means of the daily delivery van. There are a few rules which are unique to this system of borrowing: 1. Periodicals, which circulate for a very short time (if they circulate at all), cannot be borrowed. 2. Materials which do circulate are charged out for two weeks only-- regardless of the borrower's category or status. 3. Overdue fees are assessed according to the fee schedule of the library where materials are returned. 4. Renewals can only be made in person at the owning library's Circulation Desk. They cannot be made over the phone or through the home Interlibrary Loans Office. If there is a hold on the material, a renewal will not be granted. The success and continuance of the program will depend in great measure on the cooperation of each borrower in insuring prompt return of materials, prompt payment of overdue fines, and a low loss rate for the loaned items. If successful, it is anticipated that other categories of borrowers may be allowed similar privileges in the future. • |
