The root is extremely mucilaginous; and boiled with milk and water is employed as an emollient cataplasm to broken breasts. It is found wild in our hedges. The stamens have a remarkable sensibility, moving, when touched byanything, towards the pistillum :; a curious fact, discovered by Dr. Smith, the first bo- tanist of the age.
