Show 288 GIGANTIC FENNEL. GIGANTIC FENNEL. Oprate ENEMA. Take of milk of assafoctida, eight ounces; ——— tincture of opium, one drachm: To be injected at bed-time. This is useful in disorders of thé rectum, which induce insufferable pain. 289 These pills, in doses of about ten grains, twice a day, produce the most salutary effects in cases of dyspepsia, attended with hysteria, flatulence, and costiveness. Comrounp Pints or Assararipa. (Pilule Assafetide Com- posite. E.) Comrounn Pitts or Myrru. (Pilule Myrrhe Foarip Spirit or Voratine Avkani. (Alcohol Ammoniatum Feetidum. E.) Take of spirit of ammonia, eight ounces 5 assafcetida, half an ounce: Digest, in a close vessel, twelve hours; then distil off, with the heat of boiling water, eight ounces. Composite. D.) Take of assafcetida, galbanum, ———— myrrh, eacheight parts (oné ounce, D.); rectified oil of amber, one part (half a drachm, D.): Beat them into a mass with simple syrup. The doseis ten grains Foarip Sprrrr or AMmonra. (Spiritus Ammonie Feetidus. L.) twice a day in hysteria and asthma. Take of milk of assafcetida, five ounces and a half; Mix them, and drawoff, bydistillation, five pints, with a slow fire. Volatile spirits, impregnated with different foetids, have been usually kept in the shops as anti-hysterics: the ingredient here chosen is the best calculated of any for general use. ‘The spirit is pale when newly distilled, but acquires a considerabletinge by keeping. ‘The dose is a tea-spoonful in some water during hysterics, and the same to be taken occasionally.
