By proclamation of Honorable Henry H « Blood, Governor of the State of Utah, a drouth situation was declared,, * he attack upon the situation has been conducted under two divisions• The first, under the direction of the State Administrator of the federal Emergency Relief Administration, with a crew of four of the Statsfs most, capable irrigation engineers, - southt for sources of water supply not now available• The second, under the direction of Professor Geoo D. Clyde, Irrigation Engineer, of the Utah State Agricultural Experiment Station, has conducted a campaign which will continue to educate the water ussrs in the best manner of utilisation of the meagre water supply no^ f available* The data obtained has been briefed and set up in the form of individual projects* Certain projects, however, include several individual projects w! thin a county0 These have been gathered within the brief period of six days through the following agencies: 1* Utilization of the knowledge of water supplies known to each of the engineers in his private practiceo 2* Utilization of the knowledge of each water commissioner unde direction of the State Sugineer as to conditions in his dietrieto £ « Utilization of experience of county agents under the direction of the Extension Divigion, Utah State Agricultural College^ 4i Telephone contact with practicing engineers in various parts of the Stateo 5 « Telephone contact with county commissioners, municipal and irrigation company officials. 6o Direct contact with delegates from irrigation companies,. 7 » Reports from Professor George D » Clyde a( 3 he made his contacts with Hxe various counties. In accordance with the data obtained the following methods ? f securing additional water were investigated^ A* Releasing dead water in the bottoms of reservoirs and lakes which in below the outlet worksQ Bo Pumping of vast* and seepage waters into distribution canals* C. Driving wells in areas of known productivity^ D. Draining sloughs and marsheso I* Confining streams to narrower portions of their stream beds, F* Developing springs by tunneling or cleaning* G. Cutting loose beaver dams and removing obstables from stream channels0 Ho Pumping water from' under the beds of river channelso |
