LARSON 3TRA- WBEH3Y PROJECT; The Irrigation plan provides for storage water in the Strawberry Reservoir located near the head of the Strawberry River, within the Colorado River watershed* The water is diverted from the reservoir through a tunnel about three and three- fourths miles long into the Spanish Fork River* The storage water is diverted from this river into the old constructed canals near Spanish Fork, through the high: line canal across Mapleton Bench to Spring? ille and alao through a highline canal southwesterly to Payson and Santaquin* Although the project, when completed in 1915, included sjiae new land8 the larger part of the area received a supplemental water supply prior to 1915° • Q » total area covered by the project amounts to about § 09000 acresa The main engineering features of the project includes the Strawberry dam witn a maximum height of 71 feet, length 485 feet; Indian Creek dike with the maximum height of 57 feet and length of ls311 feet; Strawberry ^ unnel with a croa ® sectional area of 55 square feet and with a length of 19,800 feet; 37 miles of canals with capacities of from 50 to 300 second feet; and 54 miles of small canals with capacities less then 80 second f$ et « Ine total cost of Strawberry Project was # 3,057# 000o00 « Construction on the Strawberry Project was authorized by the Secretary of the Interior on December - 15tht 1905c* The tunnel was completed on June 20th s 1912 and the first storage water t? as . used for irrigation on June 87th, 1915, |
