Show 23V W ? Wendell Phillips 503 "D" St. N.W. Washington, D.C. Oct. 14. Dear i'rof. Atiya, Thank you for your kind letter of Sept. 6, and please forgive my long delay in answering - I have been eontinualy traveling since I last saw you. M7 trips home via India, Siam, Hong Hong and Japan, was very enjoyable. I have been hard at work on our Sinai Monastery project since my return. The Libra y of Congress is eager to go ahead as originally planned but it does not have the $ 10,000 dollars required as a gift for the monastery. I am therefore attempting to secure such a sum for the Monastery from outside sorces. As usual these jobs of raising money fall back on me - however as I prompsed the Archbishop, I shall do my very best. I have everything else ready to begin work at the monastery except the $ 10,000 for the monastery. Please rush me immediate, urgent assurance from the Archbishop that he will be satisfied with $ 16,000 for, if the Zrchbishop will not be satisfied with this sum I shell regretfully have to completely drop the entire project. As you know this will be a great tragedity and I trust you will be able to expedite matters. I have just been elected President of the American Foundation for the study of man and will undertake this project on behalf the Libra y of Congress and Farouk University through this foundation. Please rush me a reply at my Washington address and I hope to see y©« in Sinai in a few weeks enshalah- Greetings to the Archbishop , Sadek bey Gohar and Prof. Meitwally- Best kinds Sincerely, |
