Thank you very much for the enclosed information which is just what I have been waiting for. Again let me congradulate you on the wonderful success you have had with the Archbishop. Without your help this project would certainly never have been possible. I had a long series of discussions with Dr. Luther Evans, Librarian of Congress. I pointed out to Dr. Evans that this project in funds, equipment and facilities will cost the American Foundation for the Study of Kan approxi-. matoly ^ciO,QOQ. I am supplying four new cars and trucks,, gasoline, transportation, electrical and refrigeration equipment, complete logistic support and in addition food supplies, medical supplies, and the key personnel to operate this project. I pointed out that the only thing holding up the expedition was the necessary funds to give to the Archbishop. Dr. Evans finally agreed that he would secure the sum of money from some source and that I could go ahead with the project. Therefore, we will give to the Archbishop for the Monastery of St. Catherine's $10,000. The party for Sinai is leaving Philadelphia on a supertanker of the Gulf Oil Company1s on December 6th. It will arrive in Port Said approximately rourteeriTft-t-) days laterl I will cable you the exact arrival date later on just as soon as I get it. The members of this party will include William Terry, who was my field executive on my African Expedition. Mr. Terry is one of the world's foremost photographers and I will place him in charge of the entire Sinai operation. He will be accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Terry, who is my expedition business manager and also an expert photographer. Both William and Gladys Terry have been at the Monastery previously when I was there with Professor Albright. In addition I |
