Show 270 -2- the purpose of ascertaining whether they show the proceedings of the said Council of December 11, and, if so, whether such proceedings show that the Uncompahgres clearly made the request for this transfer, and with the knowledge that the adoption and enrollment of the said thirteen Southern Utes carries with it the right to share in the moneys and other property of the Uncompahgre tribe. If all this does not clearly appear from the records, there must be another Council of the Uncompahgres for the purpose of giving the matter further consideration. If such Council should be held you will carefully explain to the Indians what 'is involved in the-transfer and that in the event of their adoption of the Southern Utes named, which must be by formal resolution, they must abide by their action for all time to come. The fact that the Indians fully understand what benefits are to be conferred upon the said Southern Utes must be clearly stated in the resolution. Very respectfully, ^~ -y Jl^*«<«- (Holland) CAA&U^ Commissioner. P. |
