| Description | Mormon Trail -- Hand Cart Train. Mormon emigration, 1856-60, From an old print. The Hand Cart migration was a distinct movement in western pioneer travel. From 1856 to 1860 nearly 4000 people crossed the plains on foot. Although many deaths occurred between the Missouri River and the Salt Lake Valley, it was nevertheless a successful movement, and the people who came added much to the industrial and social life of the growing communities of Utah. |
