Show Record he went down to the junction. While I was operating the Marguerite on the river I made a number of trips down from Greenriver below my ranch. I would take my family down just for a little trip away from the ranch and would go down to the mouth of Tenmile. I do not know how many times. We went whenever we wanted to. I did not take those trips for compensation. I took some trips for compensation to points a considerable distance down the river but not to the junction. Mr. Oppenheimer had two engineers down there and they wanted me to take them out. I went down on that trip about 75 miles. I do not recall any more such trips right now. 4752 In 1924 I made a round trip to Moab. I used an outboard Evinrude motor on a row boat and went from the town of Greenriver to Moab and return. In 1924 I made two round trips and one trip in 1925. Those trips were for compensation. The engine was four- horsepower. Both trips were made past midsummer during the low stage of water. The last trip was very low water. We got back at Thanksgiving time. The power boats that I know of being operated on the Green River during my experience down there are the Cliff Dweller, sometimes known as the City of Moab; Mr. Oppenheimer had two boats, one propeller boat and one stern- wheel boat, one called the Paddy Ross; Wolverton had two, one was the Wilmont and the other the 4754 Navafo; Mr. Yokey had three that I saw; Mr. Ladd had one; Mr. Blake had one; Mr. G. W. Shores had one. George Beebe had one; Mr. Shaw and A. I. Anderson had power boats. There have been a good many row boats used on that river. Nearly all the ranchers had to have one, or their neighbor had one, to get back and forth across the river. In the early days there was no way of crossing except by ferry or walking the railroad track. I never had any experience with non- power boats. I was on the lower Colorado in 1915. I entered the river at Hite and went from there to Lees Ferry in a row boat with LaRue and Richardson. |
