Show 3891 Edwards- D 1912 BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Why do you say it could be put there by a man on a boat or on a raft? A Because it was right flush -- the water ran right under the edge of the cliff on which the inscription was put. Q At the stage of the water as it was when you passed through there, could it be easily reached from your boat? A Yes. Q Did your expedition continue then on down to Hite? A Yes sir. Q And some of the party walking and the rest riding? A Beg pardon? Q Some of the party walking and the rest riding? A Yes, after we got far enough out so they got by these points, they walked again. After we got to Hite, we picked up a flat bottom boat there and repaired it, and then the eight men continued with the flat bottom boat and the good boat to Lees Ferry, where we abandoned the river. Q This flat bottom boat, just where on the river did you pick that up? A At Hite. Q Did your supplies come in at Hite? A Yes, our supplies that Wheeler brothers brought, we found them there when we got there. Q Did you also get mail at Hite? |
