Show 108 Q Take this Colorado River Moab up to the junction and tell us the character of that land, with particular reference to the grass and the general conditions. A Well, it is a plateau country, bisected by Colorado Canyon and its tributary canyons, small tributary canyons; and between each of the canyons there would be the Flat Topped Divides or mesas. There is vegetation on the top of the mesas, and in some cases in the valley bottoms. Q What kind of vegetation? A It is the desert type. Sagebrush is, perhaps, the dominant type of the mesas. There is scanty grass and extensive coders. On the higher mountains which rise above the plateau, such as LaSalle Mountain, Blue Mountain, and so on, there is yellow pine and some spruce. It is desert vegetation, and not very abundant. Q What about the inhabitants of that country, as to numbers? A There are very few. Q Now, I am referring still to the Colorado. A In the Colorado country, there are very few inhabitants, outside of Moab Valley and Castle Creek Valley. There are very few inhabitants through the country; an isolated settler and one or two ranches which employ a few men. In the Colorado country, I would say that there are less than 100 people, outside of Moab Valley and Castle Creek Valley; 2068 |
